General Media Release
Farm chemical company, Sipcam Pacific Australia, today (EMBARGO AUGUST 16, 2007) announced an alliance with Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, the parent company of Summit-Agro Australia.

General Manager of Sipcam Pacific Australia, Damien Ryan, said the alliance would provide an immediate boost in sales and reinforce its positioning as the fastest growing farm chemical company in the Australian market.

As part of the deal Sumitomo Corporation in Japan will take a minority stake in Sipcam Pacific Australia and Sipcam will represent Summit Agro in Australia.

“The alliance is significant due to the sheer volume of brands and products involved, including a number of interesting proprietary molecules, Mr Ryan said. Combined with our own increasing range of proprietary chemistry and unique products this alliance positions Sipcam as one of the leading suppliers of proprietary technology to the Australian ag chem market.”

“The alliance is expected to deliver a steady flow of new farm chemistry for several years to come as we now have a partner on board who can increase the number of international relationships particularly in Japan”.

Mr Ryan said that the newly-included products from Summit-Agro would be available to customers from Sipcam from latest September 3rd 2007.

Referring to the intense competition within the Australian farm chemical market, Mr Ryan said the industry was set to experience more rationalisation and consolidation of this kind.

“This is the first of what I believe will be further consolidation to come, particularly in the generic end of the market”.

“We’ve all seen a plethora of generic suppliers attempting to enter this market in recent years. “However, the pendulum looks set to swing the other way. Those companies that have managed to establish a strong foothold will be looking for potential partners.

“For our part, we remain committed to participating in the consolidation of this industry as the right opportunities arise,” Mr Ryan said.
